Exercise is important to maintain physical fitness, although it has a great influence on the physical and mental aspects of a person's overall health. You can understand exercise as a physical activity, which increases the rate of your heart beyond non-active levels. The daily exercise routine includes physical activities including walking, swimming, aerobics, cycling, running, dancing, and lifting.

What do you understand by exercise?

The body is an instrument and so physical activity cannot be avoided and in fact, our bodies have been designed and built so that action or activities cannot be avoided. However, the body is bound to carry out certain activities for its growth and development - these so-called exercises are beneficial to its improved build and strengthening. Being involved in exercise can have multiple advantages for the body that prevents it from various physical and mental illnesses.

We can distinguish between exercise in three ways – first, light warming, aerobics, second anaerobic exercise such as sprinting and weight lift to build muscle strength and body strength, and third, hard workouts such as sports, badminton, wrestling, soccer, and further training, respectively.

Giving light warm-up exercise may help improve the strength of the muscles of your lungs and improve your heart health. It also helps your body to lower blood pressure, which ultimately stimulates blood circulation and the transport of oxygen to the body. The majority of fitness enthusiasts are involved in anaerobic exercises that positively impact cardiovascular health and muscle building. Because of good muscle weight, the body can more easily burn fats.

Before I start, I should first like to mention a few of the perils that a person might be facing in the absence of exercise in their lives.

A life without exercise or less physical activity is supposed to be a sedentary lifestyle which ultimately leads to a risk of many long-term health issues. One seems highly vulnerable in the absence of any exercise or fitness routine to developing cardiovascular conditions, diabetes and arthritis, osteoporosis, and even obesity.

If you do not follow an exercise routine you bring yourself closer to a sedentary lifestyle that causes physical, mental, and social problems, which as a result makes you lazy and lethargic.

I can now emphasize that developing an exercise routine is intrinsic to the life of all. Indeed, if you are a parent, but you must be aware of the importance of training very early in your life and encourage your kids to exercise in their day-to-day routines. If you are an elder, exercise is also crucial for your bones and your health in particular. Devoting 30-45 minutes to any kind of exercise can be fruitful for you with plenty of physical and psychological benefits. Below are the reasons why exercising for all stages of our lives is important. Let's read:

Importance of exercise for Children & Younger Kids

  1. Exercising is foremost essential for their bodybuilding and development.
  2. It helps in improving their body posture and balance.
  3. Children when engrossed in exercising at a young age are found to become happier and social personalities.
  4. Exercises are good for kids’ hearts, bones’ and muscles’ health.
  5. In a hectic life where kids are exposed to stress and technology at such a tender age, exercise might help them greatly to focus and calm their minds and stay stress-free.
  6. It enhances oxygen transportation and generates red blood cells in their bodies.
  7. Supports their social life by making them physically and mentally healthy.
  8. Boosts sleep cycle.
  9. Improves the flexibility of the body.

At a growing stage, one should continue with their fitness routine with light exercises or minimum workouts to keep the body fit as a fiddle. For adults the exercise routine holds manifold advantages which are as below:

  • First and foremost it lowers the risk of diseases particularly cardiovascular and diabetes.
  • It is essential to avoid a sedentary lifestyle and monotony.
  • Fills the day with enthusiasm and uplifts your mood by producing happy hormones.
  • Increase oxygen level in the body and expands lungs preventing lung diseases.
  • If someone is involved in yoga pranayama, it can reap the body miraculous results.
  • Important for weight management.
  • Helps in relieving stress, fights depression to some extent, and assists in accomplishing a healthier state of mind with focus and concentration.
  • Important for bones, joints, and muscles which tend to lose their elasticity slowly and gradually.
  • Essential for a healthy ‘me-time.

Now, as the person reaches older age it becomes even more essential to continue with exercise at this stage if not tough then at least some light warm-up exercises on regular basis.

  • Exercise can help the elderly people to primarily work on their metabolic rate that tends to become slow in older age. At this stage the muscle mass starts to decrease because of which the metabolism becomes very slow and that eventually may lead to an accumulation of more belly fat in the body hence, there is a need to exercise daily to avoid being overweight or obese.
  • It is important to prevent chronic illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, obesity, cholesterol, Alzheimer’s in old age.
  • Helps to sustain mobility and flexibility of the body and doesn’t make the body fatigued.
  • In old age, people usually suffer from brain malfunctions such as memory loss, dementia, cerebral decline but regular exercise can greatly help in preventing all these malfunctions by keeping the brain active and focused.
  • Important to provide support for bones and muscles and avoid injuries.

Impact of exercise on overall health

Overall health covers both physical and mental aspects. The impact on both aspects of health is therefore obvious. On the one hand, it increases stamina and, on the other hand, it helps the person to calm down and increase the concentration power of the mind. It helps to focus and assess the person. Exercise brings out incredible results for the mind and body to make the body well and to serve a healthy mind.

Physical and mental health go hand in hand, so it certainly affects both aspects when you are engaged in healthy physical activity. In the fitness and healthiness of the body and a body that has no disease, the physical aspect is clearly visible while the mental aspect is reflected in the human behavior, attitude, and emotional well-being. A person not only gains physical strength and vigour through regular exercise, but they also gain a positive and new attitude to life.

Benefits of regular exercise

  1. It fosters your stamina and energy levels of the body, also improves your potential for working.
  2. Immensely helps in weight loss, weight management, and fighting obesity. It also helps to manage diseases like arthritis, osteoporosis, and obesity. People who want to lose weight go for tough training workouts that help them to burn more calories eventually losing weight. As I have already mentioned exercise helps to enhance metabolism and thus that encourages more fat burning.
  3. It fosters muscle mass and keeps the ligaments and joints flexible. Muscle mass is essential for the proper functioning of joints and bones and also for their protection from injuries. Additionally, decrease the risk of bone degenerative diseases.
  4. It fosters your immunity by pumping oxygen and other essential nutrients across your body needed to combat viruses and bacteria.
  5. It fosters your emotional wellness making you a positive and social being. Any new physical activity opens a new gateway to meet new people and become social.
  6. It reduces the signs and symptoms of aging, improves your skin as it improves blood circulation in the body.

The Bottom Line

Exercise is an apprenticeship spiral. A combination of light and anaerobic exercises can be a useful way to live an active lifestyle. Exercise has got undeniable benefits for the physical as well as mental health of a person thus it is an essential part of all the stages of life. Checking with a physician is a good precaution if someone has a health condition or injury that can affect or worsen your exercise level.
