As the year comes to a close, many of us make resolutions to become a better version of ourselves in the coming year. These resolutions often revolve around health and fitness. Gym memberships, yoga classes, shopping for active wear, etc. all of these activities are on our minds. Each resolution starts with absolute conviction and energy, but as days pass by many of us tend to realize that we’ve bitten off more than we could chew in an attempt to totally transform our lives.

The key to lead a healthy life is to adopt healthy habits over a period of time. A complete transformation is often too drastic to sustain and follow. On the other hand, simple changes can be incorporated successfully without radical adjustments and effort.

Adopting these ideas can translate to good health and well-being in a sustainable and achievable way. These easy habits can help you attain your fitness goals without disrupting your life or schedules. The best part about this routine, these are known concepts shared by our elders for a better, healthier lives.


Irrespective of the kind of diet that you choose, all experts emphasize on consuming enough water. As water comprises about 60% of our body weight, it is critical for life. Adequate water intake is extremely essential for good health. All of our organs and tissues require water. Water consumption helps lubricate and cushion your joints, spinal cord, and tissues. It creates saliva and regulates body temperature.

Adequate water intake will help keep your skin hydrated and may promote collagen production. Drinking 2-3 glasses of water after waking up rehydrates the body after long sleep. Consuming warm water after waking may help you get your digestive system moving. People often drink lemon water in the morning as a laxative to prevent constipation.

Fresh Food


Across Indian, each cuisine and food preparation are rooted in the staples of that region. There is a keen focus on eating fresh foods and locally available produce. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables can ensure that there are no preservatives, chemicals or dyes added to prolong their shelf life. Fruits and vegetables actually lose its nutritional value over time, so the quicker it’s eaten, the more nutrients that can be gained from it. Seasonal produce is easier to digest and provides the right amount of nutrition to the body as per the weather requirements.

Being constants in the kitchen, such dals and beans provide wholesome nutrition complementing these foods. These foods are often high in protein, which is an important component of every cell in the body.

Our body uses protein to build and repair tissues. It is also used to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. It is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. Plant-based proteins such as beans and dals tend to be lower in calories and fat. They also contain fibre and essential nutrients.
