Fact: Losing weight quickly through restrictive dietary measures and exercise can both, weaken immunity due to a lack of proper nutrition and add stress on the body. As restrictive diets involve cutting on certain types of foods and leads to macro or micronutrient deficiencies further leading to reduced immune function.

Myth #2: Excess vitamins or minerals will improve your immune system

Fact: There is no evidence to prove that extra amount of vitamins will improve your immune system or protect you if you don't have micronutrient deficiencies. People with deficiencies should discuss this with a physician or a nutritionist. Anything in excess is not good for the body and excess of vitamins or minerals can also lead to toxicity.

Myth #3: Stress doesn’t impact our immune system

Most of us know that stress causes a lot of health problems, and unfortunately it can affect our immune system as well. The stress hormone cortisol can mess with the effectiveness of our immune system by changing the way our white blood cells react to infections.

Myth #4 Feed a cold. Starve a fever.

Fact: This one’s a myth that’s persisted through generations. Whether it’s a cold or a fever, your diet is very important, even if your appetite is low. The body’s caloric requirements increase during fever as it requires fuel to fight off an infection. Stick to whole, nutritious foods like fruits, cooked vegetables, and protein for the essential nutrients that your body needs.

Sugar might seem harmless but it actually depletes cells in our body that fight off bacteria. If sugar is a big part of your diet, you could be diminishing your immune system all day.
